Clearer, more even and better hydrated skin can change the overall impression of a face. Yet, the classic trap is to multiply products, change routines every week and irritate your skin instead of improving it.
For the majority of beginners, a good routine is mainly based on three pillars: clean without aggression, moisturize properly and protect the skin from the sun.
Start with a minimal routine
Morning:
- water rinse or mild cleansing if the skin is oily;
- light moisturizer if necessary;
- SPF 30 minimum sun protection, ideally SPF 50 if exposure is significant.
In the evening:
- mild cleaner;
- possible treatment adapted to its main problem;
- moisturizing.
This is already enough to avoid much of the frequent mistakes.
Cleaning: useful, but not aggressive
Cleaning the face eliminates part of the sebum, sweat, particles and product residues. However, stripping your skin several times a day is not a good strategy.
Constantly irritated skin can become red, sensitive, uncomfortable and sometimes produce more sebum. A mild cleaner used once or twice a day is usually a better basis than a very aggressive product.
Also avoid rubbing hard with abrasive brushes, gloves or exfoliants.
Hydration is not reserved for dry skin
Fatty skin can also be dehydrated. Anti-acne treatments such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or certain retinoids can dry and irritate the skin.
In this case, a non-comedogenic moisturizer can improve routine tolerance. Look for entries like non-comedogenic
, oil-free
or Do not block pores
If you are prone to imperfections.
Solar protection: the underestimated stage
UV promotes sunburn, skin aging and can accentuate certain pigment marks. For a long-term aesthetic routine, sun protection is one of the most cost-effective steps.
Choose a protection:
- SPF 30 or more;
- wide UVA/UVB spectrum;
- adapted to your skin type;
- non-comedogenic if you tend to have acne.
Tinted sun protection can also be interesting for some people who are prone to stains.
Add one asset at a time
Once the basic routine is stable, add the assets gradually.
Salicylic acid
Interesting for obstructed pores, black dots and oily skin. Start a few times a week rather than every day.
Benzoyl peroxide
Useful against certain forms of inflammatory acne. It can be irritating and dry: gradually introduce it.
Retinoids
They can help in acne and progressive improvement of texture. However, they ask for regularity and may irritate at first.
Niacinamide
Often well tolerated, it can support the skin barrier and help improve the general appearance of irregular skin.
The objective is not to use all these products at once. Choose the asset that fits your main problem.
Understanding Acne and Blackspots
A black dot is not an inlaid dirt: it corresponds to an obstructed pore whose contents take on a dark appearance in contact with the air. Strong rub therefore does not help to remove it. Inflammatory buttons are also not treated by multiplying scrubs.
For skin prone to black dots, keep the basic routine and consider a single suitable active agent, such as salicylic acid, starting a few nights a week. If the buttons are inflammatory, benzoyl peroxide or some retinoids can be discussed with a professional. Introduce the care gradually and monitor the tolerance of your skin.
Visible extractions, buttons and pores
Avoid pressing the buttons with the nails: this can prolong inflammation and leave marks. Repeated black-spot extractions can also irritate the skin. If the lesions are numerous or deep, ask a dermatologist for advice.
Pores cannot disappear permanently. Less irritated, hydrated and less obstructed skin may, however, make them less visible. Light and very close photos often exaggerate their appearance.
Do not change product too quickly
Skin routine takes time. For acne, several weeks may be required before a clear improvement can be observed.
Constantly changing treatment can prevent you from knowing what works and increasing irritation.
Errors to avoid
- Drill the buttons.
- Exfoliate mechanically every day.
- Stack several acids on the same evening.
- Use highly scented products on sensitive skin.
- To think that
The more it burns, the more it works
. - Bronzer voluntarily for
dry
I'm acne. - Buy thinning products or strong treatments without checking their safety.
When to consult
If acne is important, painful, leaves scars or resists conventional care, a dermatologist can offer more effective and appropriate treatments.
The goal of a glow-up routine is not to get perfect skin in a week, but gradually more stable and healthier skin with the minimum necessary products.

Why not change an entire routine at once?
One change at a time helps identify what suits your skin or causes irritation. Painful or persistent acne warrants medical advice.
